SEMARANG - Semarang State Polytechnic (Polines) is encouraging the younger generation to understand financial management and investment from their school years.

This effort was carried out by the Financial Analyst Study Program through community service activities at SMAN 3 Salatiga.

The program entitled "Strengthening Financial Literacy through Early Investment Education for SMAN 3 Salatiga Students" was held at 09.00-12.00 WIB, some time ago.

The activity involved class XII students in Economics from two classes. Education is provided interactively through the delivery of material, discussions, questions and answers, and evaluation using pre-tests and post-tests.

The head of the service team, Rikawati, SE., M.Ak., Ak., CAAT., CAP., CTT., WPPE, said that financial literacy is an important skill for the younger generation amidst the development of digital technology.

According to him, the convenience of the public, including students, in accessing information about financial and investment products needs to be balanced with adequate understanding.

"Financial literacy is an important skill for the younger generation amidst the development of digital technology and increasingly easy access to various financial and investment products," he said, in his statement, Friday (16/10/2026).

In this activity, students are introduced to the basic concepts of financial literacy, simple financial planning, and the difference between saving and investing.

Students also gain an understanding of a number of investment instruments such as shares, bonds and mutual funds.

Material regarding the relationship between risk and return is also provided so that students understand that every investment has risks.

Not only introducing investment products, education is also directed so that students are able to recognize unsafe investments and understand the importance of obtaining financial information from trusted sources.

Student Understanding Increases
The effectiveness of education is measured through a pre-test before providing the material and a post-test after all activities are completed.

The evaluation results showed an increase in participants' understanding. The students' average score rose from 93.62 on the pre-test to 99.26 on the post-test.

The greatest increase was seen in understanding of capital market investment instruments which reached 17.58 percent.

These results show that investment education from school can help students understand financial concepts better.

Through this activity, students at SMAN 3 Salatiga are expected to know more than just investment terms.

They are also expected to be able to manage their finances more wisely, consider risks before making decisions, and build healthy financial habits from an early age.

This service program is also a form of Polines contribution in increasing the financial literacy of the community, especially the younger generation.

With ongoing education, students are expected to be better prepared to face developments in the digital financial sector and be able to make economic decisions critically, rationally and responsibly.
