Polines Partners with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia to Strengthen Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Research Collaboration

SEMARANG — The development of hydrogen energy and renewable energy is one of the academic collaboration focuses discussed by Semarang State Polytechnic (Polines) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). This collaboration was highlighted during the "Diaspora Berdampak" (Impactful Diaspora) event, which featured Prof. Edy Herianto Majlan from UKM at the Polines Directorate Building on Monday, October 5, 2026.
Prof. Edy Herianto Majlan’s presence was welcomed directly by the Director of Polines, Dr. Garup Lambang Goro, S.T., M.T. In his remarks, the Director of Polines expressed his appreciation for the visit by the academic from UKM.
According to him, this meeting serves as an important opportunity to build communication and explore collaboration between Polines and UKM, especially in the development of research related to future energy.
“Thank you to Prof. Edy Herianto Majlan for taking the time to be present at Polines. We warmly welcome his arrival and hope that this meeting will open up broader opportunities for research collaboration between Polines and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia,” he stated.
He added that international academic cooperation is expected not to stop at knowledge exchange, but to develop into joint research activities involving both lecturers and students.
During the event, the Director of Polines was accompanied by members of the executive leadership, namely Prof. Dr. Ir. Dwiana Hendrawati, S.T., M.T., Vice Director for Academic Affairs; Sahid, S.T., M.T., Vice Director for Planning, Finance, and General Affairs; Dr. Bagus Yunianto Wibowo, S.E., S.Kom., M.M., Vice Director for Student Affairs and Alumni; and Prof. Dr. Ir. Kurnianingsih, S.T., M.T., Vice Director for Cooperation, Public Relations, and Information Systems. Also in attendance were the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Abdul Syukur Alfauzi, S.T., M.T., the Secretary of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Ir. Yusuf Dewantoro Herlambang, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., IPM., ASEAN Eng., as well as the academic community within Polines.
On that occasion, Prof. Edy Herianto Majlan delivered a speech and introduced Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia to the Polines academic community.
Prof. Edy Herianto Majlan presented an overview of UKM as well as the academic and research environment developing at the university. This introduction was part of an effort to build mutual understanding while exploring potential cooperation with Polines.
The discussion was then directed toward opportunities for research collaboration in the fields of hydrogen energy and renewable energy. Both fields represent an essential part of the development of sustainability-oriented energy technology.
The collaboration between Polines and UKM is expected to serve as a space for the exchange of knowledge, experience, and research ideas between the two institutions. Not only for lecturers, but this cooperation also has the potential to provide opportunities for students to gain academic and research experience in an international environment.
The "Diaspora Berdampak" (Impactful Diaspora) program is part of Polines' efforts to strengthen academic connectivity with international partners. Through the presence of overseas academics, Polines encourages knowledge transfer while opening opportunities for more concrete cooperation.
Particularly in the energy sector, the strengthening of hydrogen and renewable energy research is considered to have vast room for development.
The series of "Diaspora Berdampak" activities with Prof. Edy Herianto Majlan took place from October 4–11, 2026. This agenda is part of Polines’ commitment to expanding international cooperation and encouraging research outcomes that can deliver an impact on the development of energy technology and human resources.
